Background Information
Lake Mary is a 750-acre oxbow lake of the Lower Mississippi River in Wilkinson County, Mississippi, and is an important freshwater recreational fishery resource. A weir that maintains water levels in the lake was failing and needed to be repaired. The lake receives backwater flooding from the Mississippi River during spring, but headcutting caused by river channelization had lowered river elevations facilitating lake drainage during summer and fall. In order to sustain recreational fisheries in Lake Mary, the existing weir was repaired and is functioning successfully to maintain summer/fall water levels.
