An Overview of Brook Trout Conservation Projects Supported by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Fish Habitat Action Plan Funds, 2006-2018
This report provides an overview of Brook Trout conservation projects supported by FWS-NFHAP funds from 2006-2018.
EBTJV Salmonid Catchment Assessment and Habitat Patch Layers
Extending, standardizing, and automating the salmonid status assessment is a fundamental goal of the EBTJV. This document provides a step-by-step description of these procedures, as well as providing examples for their applications.
EBTJV Conservation Strategy (2011)
This report summarizes the range-wide, regional, and state-level goals, objectives, and strategies designed to achieve the overall principle goals of the EBTJV. This report also focuses on strategic planning to develop partnerships and secure funding to ensure the continuation of the EBTJV. In addition, individual state conservation strategies are presented, which demonstrate the commitment of all EBTJV partners and focus range-wide goals and objectives down to the state and local levels. Together, the components of this working document represent the framework necessary to begin the conservation of brook trout in the eastern United States.
Eastern Brook Trout: Status and Threats (2006)
This technical report identifies where wild brook trout populations remain strong, where they are struggling and where they have vanished. Most importantly, it provides state and federal agencies, anglers and community leaders with the tools to identify local rivers and streams that are priorities for protection and restoration. Partners in the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture are using the technical report and ongoing analyses to develop a comprehensive strategy for state and the federal agencies to protect and restore brook trout on regional and range-wide scales. This will involve advancing data collection, promoting policies necessary for success, and establishing on-the-ground projects to protect and restore brook trout habitat and populations. The data included in the technical report also will serve as a baseline for tracking and measuring the success of protection and restoration efforts over time. This first-of-its-kind assessment paints a comprehensive picture of the condition of brook trout populations across their native range from Ohio to Maine to Georgia. The technical report categorizes a variety of threats to brook trout and their habitat and helps to identify restoration and protection priorities. Using satellite imagery and statistical analysis, the report predicts the status of brook trout in areas that lack population data and identifies different levels of environmental stress that brook trout are able to tolerate before they are likely to disappear.
Status and Threats Fact Sheets

2024 EBTJV Workplan
The purpose of this document is to set targets for activities of the Coordinator and key volunteers and contractors with the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture. Activities are organized according to their fit under one of four “Conservation Goals” as outlined in the 2018 Action Strategies document.
