RIVER WALKS AND SALTER BROOK TROUT

Subtitled “The improbable return of the magical sea-run brook trout to the little rivers of Cape Cod,” the story traces fledging efforts by volunteers in breaking apart small dams with sledge hammers through today’s sophisticated investments of hundreds of millions of public and private dollars in restoring biodiversity to coastal streams. Obsolete dams are being taken out and abandoned cranberry bogs are being returned to wild wetlands.
A whole string of Salter events are planned for this fall beginning in Rhode Island on September 30, stopping for October river walks on Cape Cod, then heading north to Down East Maine. In addition to author Thomas R. Pero, speakers include Merry Gallagher, Native Fish Conservation Biologist with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
